Due to PCB’s building delays, the Pakistan-England series may relocate to the UAE or Sri Lanka
There is uncertainty surrounding the forthcoming cricket series between Pakistan and England because to the unfinished state of cricket venues, which raises the possibility of moving the matches to the United Arab Emirates or Sri Lanka.
The first Test of the series, which is a part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023–25, is set to take place in Multan from October 7–11. The second Test will take place in Karachi from October 15–19, and the third Test will take place in Rawalpindi from October 24–28.
Similar to existing initiatives in Lahore and Karachi, construction work in Rawalpindi presents the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) with a number of difficulties as it gets ready for the much awaited 2025 Champions Trophy.
The preparation of the stadiums for the next major event being hosted in Pakistan will be negatively impacted if the construction is put on hold to accommodate the series. Furthermore, the anticipated entrance of England’s Barmy Army fan club presents another logistical challenge because it is not possible to host games without attendance.
In light of these problems, the PCB is looking into other venues. Although the United Arab Emirates is the favoured destination, scheduling issues stem from the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, which is scheduled to occur in Dubai and Sharjah from October 3 to October 20.
The only remaining UAE location that might be used is Abu Dhabi. Consequently, authorities from PCB are now thinking about Sri Lanka as a potential host. In the upcoming days, following negotiations with the England Cricket Board (ECB), a final decision will be taken.
